  1. I figured out with MediaInfo the file specs under "General", "Audio", and "Video" for these 3 files. I cannot, however, determine which is the best in terms of overall quality.

The first file specs is the following:

  2. Encoding specs aren't a realiable indicator of quality.

  3. Third one, but I can't guarantee without the demuxed clips. Or even better, try finding an action scene in that anime, and figure out which video looks the best

  4. Also, what's your definition of quality? Suppose you have a movie that was shot on grainy film. One person encodes the video retaining all that grain. Watching the encoded video is just like watching the original film. Another person filters the video removing all the grain but manages to keep all the detail without introducing artifacts -- it looks great, just like real life. Which encoded video is higher quality? The one that looks like the original film or the one that looks good? What if you've never seen the original film? What if you have? What if you know the director used very grainy film on purpose because that's the aesthetic he wanted?

What he said. There are always a few members on any forum for whom I would consider disagreeing with a sign of ignorance or stupidity. He's one of them. Besides, he's very right on this. Mediainfo specs don't say what the source is.

My point was that people's perception and definition of "quality" differs. The film grain issue was just one easily understood example of the difficulty in defining the quality of a video. And beyond the definition of quality -- we don't know anything about the provenance of the encoded videos. For all we know some could be from an HD source, some poorly upscaled from an SD source. Some may have been re-encoded many times. The only way to definitively judge the quality is to watch them for yourself.
