  1. I had an old version of streamlink (command line) that I used years ago, but now I get an error when trying to download a youtube video, so I uninstalled the old version and installed the latest version of streamlink. Now I can't seem to run the software. In the past, I would simply open up the command line (no navigating to a particular folder) and paste in the command. For example, this youtube video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge4SaeTZ0Mk
I would open up the command line and paste in:
    Code:
    streamlink "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge4SaeTZ0Mk" best -o output.ts
Now, I get this error message (see screenshot). Can someone show me in detail how to make streamlink work. Thank you.

  4. I uninstalled and reinstalled but same problem (can't run software from just opened command window).
If I use the command line to navigate to the streamlink.exe (program files>streamlink>bin) and put in the command (to download above youtube video) I get an error message. See below screenshot. I have windows 7.

i believe any newer versions of streamlink only support windows 10 - https://github.com/streamlink/streamlink/issues/3323
also see under streamlink 2.4.0 - https://www.videohelp.com/software/Streamlink/version-history windows 7 support has been dropped
and must use an alternative installation methods on Windows 7

  7. Thank you for that info:

I uninstalled streamlink 3.0.1 and installed streamlink 2.3. Works fine. And can run the software without navigating to another folder.
I do have one question. See below screenshot, it says there is 144p and 240p available but I got errors on those. The lowest that would download was 360p. Why is that?

  8. why you want to use streamlink?
    easy yt-dlp. for 144p:

    Code:
    yt-dlp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge4SaeTZ0Mk -F
    Code:
    yt-dlp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge4SaeTZ0Mk -f 160

  9. why you want to use streamlink?
Of course yt-dlp is better to download youtube videos. But I've used streamlink in the past for certain things, and when I discovered it didn't work anymore, I wanted to solve the problem. Attempting to download a youtube video was the simplest way to try to get streamlink working again.
I still would like to know why I couldn't download the 240p and 144p on above youtube video with streamlink.
    Code I used:
    Code:
    streamlink "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge4SaeTZ0Mk" 240p -o output.ts
    Error message on streamlink output:

EDIT: I found answer when I posted same question on github, streamlink:
This happens on the latest version also. It just seems to happen with some streams, unfortunately.
Ideally, the YT plugin would support their DASH implementation, but until somebody takes the time to do that work, we're stuck with it as it is.
That's not a great answer, but it's the best that can probably be given at the moment.

If 'streanlink' doesn't work, it is recommended to try Geekersoft YouTube downloader. I am currently using this and everything works fine.
