HD video capturing devices and their audio limitations

A simple solution but it is not true stereo, it's just duplicating the mono audio track.

This can be done with FFMPEG :

ffmpeg -i input.avi -c:v copy -ac 2 -acodec pcm_16le output.avi

input.avi is the captured video file via Virtual Dub and output.avi the file created by FFMPEG with the mono audio track duplicated.

Duplicating the mono track is not the same, even if you edit the new track a few milliseconds backwards. What was called simulated stereo.

I am trusting I can feed a stereo track from the source in the device line input, which should be in sync with the video.

Having a stereo line input I can even add an HDMI mini-DAC in the middle, as I did on my main system before buying the Pioneer receiver. HDMI in/out + RCA out. The sound was great, though stereo. For me stereo is enough, not such a great fan of 5.1.

But all of this would be just a bet.

I think I discovered what might have happened: Acasis did release a new model with the same characteristics, including line audio in. Though you can select between two HDMI inputs and outputs.
