iMovie 10 import AC3 but only exports stereo

I am on a project of ripping laserdiscs and have solved the AC3 audio capture issue. I then import the .ac3 file into iMovie to combine with the .mp4 video and successfully edit the video and audio separately to cut out the breaks and align the sound. My problem is that when I export the result, the output .mp4 has always reduced the 5.1 audio to stereo. What can I do to preserve the .ac3 5.1 audio in my exported .mp4 file?
