  1. Hello

I've been recording Some Zoom using OBS from Zoom Desktop Client itself. I don't like it much.

I figured out that I could record Streams from Zoom Web Client. Much Easier and can be controlled.

My question is "Can I download Packets of the live stream and then combine them in a one video at the end?"

(I am a Zoom tech admin at my institution)

Most corporate Zoom setups are encrypted, so you could DL packets, but they'd be worthless to you unless you had the key (fat chance). Easier to get with the admin/moderator/host of the Zoom session and ask them to record. Likely they can record either locally to their own computer or the Zoom cloud hosted storage. If the former, they just copy/send the mp4 file(s) to you. If the latter, they just login to their Zoom acc't and DL the stored mp4 clips, then send it to you.

Alternately, the admin/mod/host can allow you to record - but they must explicitly choose to do so in the session, unless their site admin has already forced that site-wide (very rare).

This way, the quality would be the best available. Screen capping via OBS is 2nd generation (decoding mp4, screen capping it, then re-encoding it), so not as good a quality.

...Oh, and I just now noticed you said "web" client, as opposed to desktop app client. Web client has less features, cloud recording MAY be an option there (we never use webclient here), but for the webclient, LOCAL recording is not possible. If you want ALL possible features, use the desktop app.

  3. Thank you Scott for answering my question.

Well, Unfortunately, It is an online event and they don't want to give any recordings in the future even with paying extra for it. It is only one time to catch. and This is the problem. I'm not sure if something could came up. Internet or electricity goes off or even PC Crash. I have a lot of options in my mind. That's Why I'm even afraid of recording.

If you choose Desktop App, OBS won't be able to detect Zoom APP Exclusively. You can only use Desktop Screen Recording, So Basically, It will be dedicated to the mission. It is not a big deal for many people, But it is for me unfortunately.

My Option so far is browser Recording as It can be detected as a individual app without any hassle and can be recorded easily. Haven't yet figured out to get the best output quality.

Alternatively, They r is one paid Scheduled Zoom Recording App. I'm gonna try it and see if it works as described.

  5. All those kind of features rely on Host and Co-host permissions They may restrict everything for other viewers.
