I just ripped Behind Enemy Lines and it is around 6.5 gigs. What is the easiest way to get it onto 1 DVD+R. I have read the guides on this site but they are very time consuming. I thought a DVD writer would make ripping easier but those guides say it would take over 24 hours to put a DVD larger than 4.5 gigs onto 1 DVD+R. I don't care if I have to strip it to only the main movie as long as it works. Anyone have a quicker method or have experience with 7 gig movies?

    Tez12345,

If you want to, try this. Get a copy of DVD-Decrypter, IFOEdit and ReMPEG2 which can all be found on vcdhelp and doom9 websites as well as the guides on how to use them. The reason I suggest DVDDecrypter is that it gives the option to rip main movie files and the according IFO file. I have used these programs quite a bit and have had great results every time. Now be aware that even if you rip only main movie files(with a DVD this large) you may have to Remux the VOB files using ReMPEG2 (which essentially transcodes the video stream to make it smaller) and that is somewhat time consuming. It depends on the system and OS of course but I use Win98SE, Athlon XP1700(1.47GHZ), 256 DDR mem, 40GB HD and a HP DVD100i drive using DVD+RW media which holds 4.37 gig and can remux about 5GB in about 7 hours. This is just a suggestion and I really suggest reading as much of the help guides that you can and I think you really will be satisfied with the results.

Thanks leb2, I have another question for ya. I have a HP200i and I am using smartripper to rip and nero 5.5.8.0 to burn. It works perfectly in my hp drive but won't work on my apex 500-w or my other dvd-rom drive. I'm using hp dvd+rw media. I have heard thru this forum that hp dvd+rw media is very poor. Have you or anyone else had success with hp or any other dvd+rw media?

    Tez12345,

I have used HP,Memorex and Verbatim media so far and have not had a single issue. I use an Apex AD-1500 and man that baby takes everthing thrown at it (VCD, SVCD, DVD, MP3 and bought it for $79 at Cicuit City). I also use Nero and have for quite some time starting with 4.0, I now use 5.5.8.2 and it is a little different in that it uses what is called Nero express. It just appeared on the Nero site yesterday so I am still testing it, so far so good. Did two DVD's last night and can say that the data verification feature is much faster (if you use that feature). I am going to start the upgrade to the 200i this week, I think it will take about four weeks to get the drive. You might check the DVD compatibility list about the 500w because I think it does mention compat probs with +RW media. Now you might be able to get a firmware upgrade for it or a hack but I am not sure. Hope this helps

Scratch that I just checked the compat list and the 500w is supposed to work with +R/RW. Maybe check in Nero when burning that the config is correct. You are burning VOB files right?

If you strip a 120 - 150 minute movie to just the movie and one audio stream, probably just the Dolby Digital 2.0 stream, you should be able to cram it onto a 4.7gb DVD-R without re-encoding the video.

    HOWEVER

If you're pulling your hair out trying to get this to work, and you're focusing on it for two, three, four days ... at some point you're going to have to realize that paying $20 for the pressed DVD is well worth it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for copying DVDs at DVD quality onto DVD-R.

    BUT

If it's taking you a week to do it, plus a post or two onto vcdhelp.com ... Where is the cost-to-entertainment value of copying the thing?

    Think about it!
