Some videos of my Iphone camera don't fit all the screen

Hi.

I am not new to videos but just know the basic.

I've an Iphone XR and I record videos with the camera (it uses by default always 1080 HD at 30 fps) and all seems ok in the Iphone.
When I want to make a video in my PC using some of my recordings, they become a .MOV (that then I need to convert to .mp4 because Vegas doesn't work with .MOV).

But my problem is that SOME of my videos don't fit the screen like this one for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSoi7DGrUfY
And other videos fits 100% the screen and I never change the configuration.

1) Why does this happen?

2) For the videos that are already like this, what's the best way to fix it? I've tried, it becomes bigger (not the whole screen) but a lot of reolution is lost.

Open the original phone video with mediainfo, put it in view/text mode and post the info here.
If possible, also post a short clip cut directly from the original phone video

The files have the same resolution, but the first has a flag to show it should be viewed vertically (portrait mode),
while the 2nd is correct in landscape mode.
The Youtube video was edited by you since it has titles, it looks as if something went wrong during the editing,
since the titles are full screen and look normal

Did it look like that before you uploaded it to Youtube?

Yeah. Some videos in .MOV are like that.

I edited with Vegas but the original video is the problem, not the editing.

I was the person who shot that video. Yes, I started vertically and after 9 seconds I re-oriented the phone horizontally because it was more comfortable, but the whole video doesn't fit the screen.
I don't know what you did to fix it.

Look, I've played all my videos and it seems that the issue I've happens only when I record the video vertically. When I shot horizontally it fits the whole screen.

This is how it looks on my 16:10 (1680x1050) monitor. On a 16:9 screen it will look even worse.

It's never going to fit the screen, the aspect ratio of the video Vs. the screen are too different.

If you want the video to fill the fill the screen, shoot landscape

If you're asking what can be done to mitigate already existing portrait oriented video to better fill the screen,
it can be only be done with heavy cropping, top/bottom to more align the A/R - that's about it

You can crop it to 1080(width) by 608 (height) to make it fit the screen, but as you can see
a massive part of the picture is lost

Essentially, when you bring your video into an editor, the limiting dimension will determine how it looks. In this case, the limiting dimension is the vertical 1920 pixels (as it is 1920 high by 1080 wide). It will be limited to 1080 pixels by your project "shape" (1920wide by 1080high). Therefore, the 1920-high image is "shrunk" down to 1080-high, and because the project 16:9 shape is retained, you get black bars on the sides (called pillarboxing).

If you want the whole video to be in 16:9 landscape, you have no option but to severely crop the the initial vertical part. I've attached my attempt; you'll see a lot of the vertical has been cropped away to create a 16:9 look on the initial part before I rotate and zoom out to the landscape second portion (after you've rotated the phone to landscape).

Here's one frame of the crop ( I had to resize/move the area as the rotation came in):

Can't you set an iPhone to record/save videos in MP4?......or is it just the app that I'm using?
