What is the best codec library currently available - and still maintained regularly - for Windows 8? I read about one named K-Lite. How does that compare to others?
Is there any easy way to NOT have the codec library replace the default codecs under Windows? I would prefer to have the codec installer only install codecs for which Windows offers no support.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

For playback just use a player with built in codecs. For encoding install only the codecs you need/want. There's no reason to install codec packs.

A codec pack is a good way to hose the OS, and have to reinstall it.
