converting DAT files to mpg format

I have used VCD Gear software for converting files from a VCD to mpg format. If the DAT files are together on a VCD, the VCD Gear automatically lists the tracks but I want to convert some DAT extension video files which are on my hard disk to mpg format and I do not see any menu option in VCD Gear which allows a user to open a DAT file which is not stored as a VCD.

Could anyone throw light on how such files can be converted to mpg format?

The is a program out there called DAT2MPG. It takes seconds to convert with this excellent program.
