I have some .wmv files. They import and work fine in AviUtl using Windows 7. But when I import them under Windows 10, the audio is all out of sync. In both cases, W7 and W10, I drag-n-drop the file into the advanced editing window. Then it creates the index file. I choose match imported video for the project. In Windows 10 the audio is playing from some other part of the file. Way off. I have not figured out from where in the file the audio is playing. It is not just a simple 2 second delay or something like that. As best as I know.
I can import a file and just try playing it. No edits at all. And the audio is off. Any way to fix this?

Thanks. That did not work but it points me at a problem. My media players do not play the .avi version. They all play the .wmv version. VLC player just gave an error for missing codec. Windows Media Player played but with no audio. Pot Player said it needs WMA pro codec. I let Pot Player grab a codec but it still did not play. (Maybe I have to reboot) I do not see a way to get that WMA pro codec. It is paid only? I also did the test using Windows 7 with the same result.

I have a vague memory of having to add the WMA codec to my Windows 7, years ago. Methinks that is why it works on W7 but not W10.
I found a workaround. Using Avidemux I copied the video but recompressed the audio to AAC(FDK) to an mkv format. Now AviUtl will play it properly. I will try some edits soon. Any hints on the best audio to remux to using Avidemux? It probably does not matter much which one.
EDIT: Nope, this solution does not work. If I cut the video in the "wrong" place, the output is not encoded properly. Some combination of the Video and audio codecs seems to be the problem. I can try other audio encoders in Avidemux but I will wait for a hint of which one to try. I don't want to test them all.
I still want to add the WMA 10 pro codec or maybe an importer to AviUtl that supports that codec.Last edited by ChasVideo; 27th Aug 2021 at 23:11.

That did not work either. The video still breaks up within AviUtl as I move the position slider around. An edit point breaks up in the output file.
Looks like I can:
Find the codec that will work.
Only edit in Windows 7. Not sure why it works OK there.
Re-encode the video and audio to something that will work. Maybe .mp4. Probably using Avidemux. I hate re-encoding more than needed. -
Perhaps try Virtualdub2. Assuming it successfully opens the source, set Video/Compression to FFmpeg FFV1 (lossless code),
configure, bit depth 8, YUV 4:2:0,
file/save video/save as AVI
Then hope that AviUtil can open it properly -
Thanks for your help. But it was my fault. I did not install the latest AviUtl. I copied the "portable" one from my Windows 7. Now I can Edit that file. It does have an audio delay of about -233 ms within AviUtl. No idea why. The file plays fine in all the players I have tried. The AviUtl audio delay filter seems to be working. I just have to fine tune it to get it exact.

Just updating in case some one needs this info someday. That still did not work. The audio delay was different every time. Sometimes the audio delay filter did not even adjust anything.
I played with avidemux which can copy video and only recode audio. But it can only output to an .mkv or .avi file with wmv video without compressing. I tried all combinations. Using mp3 for the audio worked the best. But ... AviUtl seemed to get confused with wmv video within an avi file. As I move the slider around the video breaks up. It has to find a key frame to play again. The audio was in sync but editing would be a real pain.
After getting pissed and throwing the mouse at the cat (it liked that) and the monitor at the dog (it did not like that) I finally remembered something.
VLC player can recode. VLC can recode just audio and can output a real .wmv file. It can recode audio into wma2 which is a valid codec for a .wmv file. That worked. Finally. The new .wmv files work well. The same as they did with my Windows 7.Last edited by ChasVideo; 29th Aug 2021 at 17:32. Reason: Fixed FLV to VLC
