  1. Hi there all
I am new to this 'vcd game' - i have recently been downloading divx files and convertin them to vcd - it has been suprisingly enjoyable!

However, i have this file, Ocean's Eleven, which has AC3 audio and is an avi file. I have tried everything i can think of to extract the audio - but no success!

Would someone be kind enough to inform me as to how i should go about making this vcd..

    Thanx

  2. I haven't tackled a DivX with AC3 yet but I have suggestions

first de-multiplex the audio out of the DivX -- put the file into VirtualDub and then select file-save wav (but make sure you DONT select full processing mode - make sure to leave it on direct stream copy)

thats IF it will load in VirtualDub (liike I said I haven't seen a AC3 DivX yet) ... if that does work then get BeSweet from http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/BeSweetGUI0.6b39.rar

    it's an "advanced tool for transcoding popular audio formats (AC3->MP3 / MP2->WAV / VOB->MP2 / etc..) Features includes : Normalize, Dynamic-Range-Compression, Sample-Rate-Conversion, Frame-Rate-Conversion"

that should be able to take your AC3 to any format you want

    you might also need http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/BeSweetv1.3b11.zip

to go with the BeSweet GUI - I don't remember because it's been a while since I've downloade it

if it doesnt open in VirtualDub to extract the AC3 let me know I may know other options

  3. thanx for ur prompt reply - i have already tried all this

unfortunately, although audio loads in virtualdub, it ends up as an unusable file which is significantly smaller than normal (around 150 megs)

as the audio is not extracted as an ac3 in vdub, then it can't be processed using be sweet

Oceans eleven is the only movie i have had this problem with - it is rather frustrating tho!

I guess the main thing to establish would be how u can extract AC3 from an AVI/divx file so it can be converted to mp2

    Thanx for ur help

  7. Ok seems you need specific AC3 filters - see this guide - it's how to ADD AC3 to DivX but you can learn from it to extract AC3 files (be creative)

I think you will need VirtualDub's cousin NanDub

    http://www.doom9.org/divx__ac3.htm

if all else fails you can definitly use Graphedt to extract it to WAV -- I dont have the method infront of me but I have used Graphedt on the REALLY hard stuff like WMV to AVI conversion -- Graphedt is the STRONGEST conversion tool in the arsonal but it's very user unfriendly

you can also check this list of AC3 tools http://www.mpegx.com/search.asp?keyword=ac3

    and HeadAC3 might work
    http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/headac3he-0.23.rar

and this is probalby a better guide for Graphedt plus they link the full version of it (not the trial version)
    http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/audio-extract.htm

somewhere in there is multiple solutions you just need to find one that you can use - I'd help more but I don't have a DivX with AC3 to work with

  8. In the nicky guide "how to" you can skip making the list and just open your DivX in Graphedt if you have the correct filters installed

  9. i will try this and keep u posted - i think that graphedit looks very daunting but i will give it ago

    u r a decent guy

thanx for ur time and effort

i found another giude which suggests that u extract audio in vdub but save as an ac3 - i did this - then use be sweet/azid 2 (on the gui) to convert ac3 to wav - then continue as normal.

i tried this although everytime i do it the gui says 'Finding Maximum gain'

    thanx though

imran078: :-) ummm that what I suggested - you extract he AC3 in virtual dub with DirectStream copy on and then do save wav file (but it's just pulling out the ac3 ... sorry I just assumed you would name it .ac3) -- thats not trying to convert the audio in VirtualDub, it's just extracting or demultiplexing the audio.

doing dierct stream copy just exports that audio 'as is' be it mp3 or ac3 or wma ... then you can work with just the audio (dont let the save wav option throw you - if you are on direct stream copy it is NOT altering the audio at all)

as for Graphedt - it LOOKS hard but once you get used to it it's the 'ace in the hole!' ... oh so very very versitle

  11. hehe

u have probably gathered that i do not have a clue!

I understand now- it just wont work in the be sweet/azid thing now.

I also need to work out how to open the divx in graphedit!

    Hanx again dude

  12. use VirtualDub (on direct stream copy for both audio and video) and select about 30 seconds of the file and save avi -- if you have web space - or the file is under 5 meg - send me the file (email or download)

send me an email if you can do that - I'd be interested in trying to do this myself and maybe making a Graphedt screen cap to show how it's down
