  1. Okay. Thank you for clearing that up.

I will just use iso's mounted with daemon tools.

  2. It is now converting as of this post. Thank you for all of your help, @Selur.

I think this issue can be closed now.

  3. Well I did think that.

But it happened again. Was trying to use the passthrough options on both DVD input video and audio (passthrough all) to an mkv container and it told me the file was zero bytes.
I was able to get it working by disabling: Use mplayer for DVD audio extraction: on the Config>Input>Extraction tab.
It seems that the issue could be with mplayer.

Also it sometimes crashes when choosing the custom option on audio.

  4. Without a debug output which shows that those problems I can't really help, since I have no way to reproduce those problems.
    (one debug output per problem)

  5. The extraction call looks fine:
    Code:
    "C:\Program Files\Hybrid\64bit\mplayer.exe" -v -demuxer lavf -lavfdopts probesize=128 -mc 0 -vc dummy -nocorrect-pts -noconsolecontrols -nocorrect-pts -vc null -vo null -nocache -hardframedrop -aid 128 dvd://1 -dvd-device "D:\VIDEO_TS" -dumpaudio -dumpfile "C:\output\iId_1_aid_128_lang_en_DELAY_-17ms_2021-08-23@00_31_33_7010_01.ac3"
    MPlayer then reports:

no clue what's up with those files that mplayer can't analyse them. :/

  6. I really am not that upset about it though, since a workaround (mencoder) fortunately exists.

The movie tested here was Batman Begins (Widescreen) by the way.

  7. I have tried several of the fps options and I was wondering if there is a way to force it to be detected as 23.976 fps.

I compared two conversions I did for motion interpolation, one that was first converted with Handbrake x264 lossless RF 0, which detected it as 23.98 fps and then converted with Hybrid for motion interpolation.

Number two was converted directly using Hybrid on the DVD input setting with motion interpolation and as I compared the two I noticed that number one looked smoother than number two because of the framerate. The actual framerate might be about 29 fps but I am guessing frame duplication is going on because from what I have heard most movies run at 23.976 fps.

Edit: Another thing happened. The movie that just finished converting with Handbrake was using same as source CFR and Hybrid says that its 23.976/VFR.

One more thing, I have noticed and I am not sure if it is Hybrid or the external programs themselves but the priority it somehow being set to low. That probably explains the slower extraction. With Process Hacker you can change both program priority and I/O priority. I could be wrong, but I think there are more visual artifacts when using VS over AS, and maybe that is the reason I switched over the first time.

Update: I tried to use VapourSynth on the dev but got this instead:
    Image

    Debug log: https://www.mediafire.com/file/11llglunv4h77ex/HybridDebugOutput.zip/file

Edit 2: Nevermind. I went back to the older version so I can use VapourSynth if I so choose. And you were right about VapourSynth. For me it is at least 2x or more faster than AviSynth. The fastest speed is when I use the Realtime Priority on the x264.exe and VSPipe.exe even though I know it isn't recommended.

I also see now that there is *maybe* more visual artifacts in the conversion and maybe why I switched over to AviSynth.

Hybrid takes the info from MediaInfo, so I guess the source is vfr at least in the first few frames.

Hybrid sets everything is used to priority low to keep the system as responsive as possible.

Happens with Windows 7 that is missing some dlls that are standard in Windows 10.

  9. I think I know why AviSynth was giving better results quality-wise: The Override algo.

If I may ask, which one gives the best results for quality? I am using 21.

    What override algo ?

If I may ask, which one gives the best results for quality? I am using 21.
What are you referring to? CRF? A lower crf value will result in less data loss, but larger files. crf = 0 <> cq = 0 <> lossless.

  11. My apologies, I meant the motion interpolation options:Image

  12. Ah okay.
    a. Vapoursynth config also has the'Overwrite Alg.' option.
    b. Sadly, there are no optimal settings which are good for each source and also Interframe is not always the best choice when it comes to interpolation. Depending on the source one of the other methods and or totally different settings might be better. (this is true for Avisynth and Vapoursynth) Personally I prefer 'Overwrite Alg.' 13 and 'Tuning' 'Smooth' for normal video content.

For some explaination about the possible settings under 'Overwrite' see: https://www.svp-team.com/wiki/Manual:SVPflow

  13. I have tried some of the other interpolators but they seem to not always interpolate if the motion is too fast. Which one would you say is the best if not Interframe?
    Quote Quote
  14. That totally depends on the content, for some FrameRateConverter and for some RIFE or TorchRIFE are usually the best.

  15. Do they have a custom FPS setting or just double, triple etc.?

  16. FrameRateConverter custom, (Torch-)RIFE only double.

  17. Okay I see the skip options. Maybe this is what I am looking for to not skip over interpolating any frames.

  18. When override algo 23 says it can be less smooth, does it mean less fluid?

  19. yes

  20. Thank you. I will probably just use 21 then.

Also I am unsure if there are any methods that will interpolate the entire frame even if there are water-like artifacts in them.
Are there any (AviSynth/Interframe) that you know that will not skip over any frames even if it perceives the motion is too fast?

  21. No clue, never looked for that.
