  1. Win10 x64. Installed an outdated version of K-Lite 15.4.0 Standard (February last year) and the video that I encode with VidCoder and RTX graphics card, choosing H.265, is played in Media Player Classic only using the CPU - only the CPU is loaded, but not video engine (what it's called in GPU-Z). But it has been successfully used in coding. Video encoded with H.264 is decoded by the video card.

I'm planning to install a new version of the codecs, but later, because I would not like to do this yet, especially without a guarantee that it should work at all. But in advance I would like to know if all this should work? I've tried different render settings in player and codecs.

H.265, like a series of RTX cards, appeared a long time ago and it's strange that the 1,5y old version of the codecs cannot play such videos normally.

  2. Do you really mean Media Player Classic -- which hasn't been updated since 2010? All the more modern players can play h.265 video with hardware decoding and don't require installing any 3rd party codec pack. MPCHC, MPCBE, VLC, PotPlayer, KMPlayer, SMPlayer...

  3. MPC-HC (1.9.1.34), which is installed along with the codecs from the K-Lite Kit from codecguide.com

Are you sure that everything should work and hardware acceleration should be used when playing H.265 video? For example, I'm currently using the Enhanced Video Renderer (custom presenter) and others. Videos that I encoded in VidCoder with H.265 codec, then when playing it in the player, only the CPU is loaded, but not the video card (VID Usage load in MSI Afterburner is zero). Also tried other settings in DirectShow Video.

  4. MPCHC playing a 10 bit HEVC video on Win10 with Intel integrated graphics:

You can see 1 percent CPU, 14 percent GPU.

Did you enable hardware decoding in MPCHC? Options -> Internal Filters -> Video Decoder -> Hardware Acceleration...

  5. Thanks for the answer!

Apparently, it was some kind of glitch in VidCoder. I reinstalled it and after that I tried again. Only the video card is loaded, as it should be. This is strange.

I changed the settings even earlier. They are now like this (after reinstallation of VidCoder, I did not change them):
