I am new at this digital editing stuff. I have a Phillips 985 DVDR and plan on getting a second generation +RW drive for my computer. What I want to do is capture a lot of old family videos on VHS on the Phillips box and then edit them on the PC and finally burn them on DVD for archive and to give to other members of the family. I have gotten far enough to discover that the phillips box creates a lot of VOB files when I capture from VHS. Is there some easy way to edit them on the PC without first having to convert them to some type of MPEG and then use an editing/authoring program like DVD Movie Factory? It just seems that it will take a lot of time and lose quality to decode and then reencode the videos. Is there an editing authoring program that will start with the vob files? Thanks for your help.
