I've got a couple of Philips VR1000s that have strangely ended up with the same issue within a couple of days of each other. Whenever playing any tape (tested multiple VHS and VHS-C), the output will be made up of a couple of solid colours that are randomised every time testing a tape. The audio playback is absolutely fine for both HiFi audio and regular audio. The tapes work fine on other VHS machines that I have, so the tapes are definitely not the issue.
I'm guessing that this would be in some way related to the video heads; I've given them a clean with some pure isopropyl and a chamois swab, but it hasn't made any difference. Does anyone have any ideas if these machines can be saved and if there's potentially a fault that I've overlooked?

Mine didn't die that way....mine had tape loading issues caused by my own angry impatience. I'm very careful with my VR1100 now. Still the best "bang for your buck" machines in my opinion.
