My Sony DCR-TRV120 camera does not play Video 8 cassettes. A few days ago it worked with the same Video 8, I digitized them with Firewire.

Yesterday I tried to use it as a capture card using its Firewire / DV output and its A / V RCA input, which didn't work, the sound was fine but plugging in the video cable caused sound distortion and no picture.

Does anyone know why it doesn't play?

    Thanks

ps: This post should go to "Camcorders (DV / HDV / AVCHD / HD) (23 Viewing)" but I don't know how to change or remove it.

You're having problems with a tape that worked OK the day before yesterday?
Do you get a picture in the camera's screen?

Exactly, tapes that were working fine but not now. I do not get image or sound. Only a blue screen on the LCD and the viewfinder all black, but it marks that the tape is playing.

I'd be going through the menus to see if the A>D conversion you tried had switched one of the settings eg in VTR SET mode, AV>DV Out to Off, and the playback mode.

Sound to me like a bad A/V cable, How are you connecting your camcorder and what type of cables you're using?

check that and it's like you say

I connect the camera by power source, the battery is dead. I have used it with Firewire and it worked fine. But now without connecting any external cable other than the power cable, it does not reproduce video or sound.

I'm beginning to suspect that the failed attempt I made yesterday to use its A / V input to get it out over Firewire affected something.

Attached photo of the cable that is not the original, it is a mini plug to RCA

In this video I show that during playback you see the blue screen but when you press rewind with playback running the screen turns black and when you release rewind, it plays again and you can see some stripes. The sound in the background is my VCR rewinding

    any sign of something?

Interesting. In VTR mode, when I hit Play, my TRV-110 initially shows the white arrow for a second or two at the top of the screen but then the video images from the tape appear.

Mine doesn't have AV>DV mode so I can't check whether that affects playback of a tape.

Clutching at straws now, in the VTR SET menu, try changing the Playback Mode (PB Mode) from Auto to Hi8/8.

I did it,everything you could touch on the menu.

I'm sorry that it was broken and it is not a question of configuration. I got it a month ago but it worked perfect until I did the A / V test, which by the way made a lot of distortion noise. So I don't know what else to try.

Those cables are not standard, every manufacturer have their own location of the pins, possibly that noise is because you are feeding the composite signal into one of the audio channels, get the right cable first.

I think yes, I have to get the original cable. but the problem still persists that the tapes are not played. Could it be that the wrong cable and its use damaged the video camera?
