  1. Im trying to convert a
    352x240 30fps MPEG-1 video
    to a
    352x240 29.97fps MPEG-1 NTSC video (same resolution).

I've followed the startup wizard in TMPGEnc and all seems to be fine until I click the start conversion, and it either locks up the program or comes up with the error message "Illegal Floating Decimal Point Calculation Order".

Im new to all this, and cannot find out why or how to fix elsewhere.

I run a 430mhz with 200mb ram, but its only a small 25mb video. So I wouldn't think its my system thats causing the problem.

Or does anyone know where I can find a manual/guide for using TMPGEnc, (heard it was one of the best Freeware programs available)

your error has nothing to do with the framerate...look at the top of the newbie forum--there is a sticky topic titled:
"illegal floating decimal" or something to that effect
in that post is the answer to your question

--also, read the post titled "read this before posting"

"One possible fix is to change the AVI file engine TMPGEnc uses. Try going to
    1. Options
    2. Environmental Settings
    3. VFAPI Plugin
    4. right click on 'Direct Show Multimedia File Reader'
    5. select Higher Priority"
