  1. It turns out I do have Windows 11 but it was showing version "10.00 something" and I got confused.

I noticed a Beelink 16GB Ram 500GB hard drive on sale at Amazon Canada and it had a $60.00 coupon as well. It look like the coupon brought the price down to around what the 8GB Ram 256GB hard drive version costs. I was tempted to snap it up but I just can't be spending that kind of money right now.

  2. I tend to stave off updating Windows 11, by delaying five weeks but I didn't pay enough attention so it has updated to 23H2. I am noticing a Co Pilot Preview. I use the command line fairly often and I notice differences there. I used to have a way of "select all" and the going back then and selecting "copy" which I would then paste into Notepad. Now those options are gone but I do notice something called "command palette". I just checked it there are lots of commands in there including "select all" and "copy". There is also ways to get to powershell and something called Azure Cloud which like
Co Pilot I will try to avoid.

I had Windows 11 showing weather information before login so I disabled it by following this article. Also disabled the Co Pilot as an added bonus.

Good move. At best it is a very annoying distraction, at worst an abominable, security-compromising intrusion. I have three hardware-near-identical systems running Win 10 22H2. Employing various of the published methods (in the Registry; via Group Policy) I have managed to block its getting established on two of those systems. With the third I must have been too late -- or something; CoPilot is there doing its data mining & phone-home thing, and nothing I have tried has been able to get rid of it. Tools like Revo or Geek Uninstaller cannot find any trace of CoPilot. I even identified all (?) of its files (except for two that were untouchable, unless you boot outside of Windows with a Linux Live CD, or something of that nature) and then deleted them. But still No Dice. If some Windows expert could tell me everywhere that this effing thing lives, I would pull it out by the roots. That is something I still hope for.

According to folks at Ask Woody, CoPilot can also hitch a ride into your computer life via Microsoft Edge browser and their 365 Office Suite. So, more to watch out for. (I don't use the latter two products.)

I had found your advice in the thread on using Whisper translation very helpful, and have been making regular use of that software ever since. Quite some time after that had elapsed in which we hadn't heard from you, so it's good to see your return.

So your Windows 11 machine is running fine and shiny?
Don't worry, Micro$0ft will break it again soon.

Microsoft is testing a new Windows 11 Start menu with floating widgets
/ A replacement for Live Tiles seems to be on the way.

Glad to say I don't have a Win 11 machine, and have NO plans to do so.

Agree. It's a non-issue for those who know what's under the hood, and know how to tweak what they need when it's non-standard.
In the process of converting our whole fleet (~>1500) of PCs to Win11, with encryption, etc., and haven't had a single OS-related issue, even with some old machines that have 4GB RAM and 128GB SSDs (no self-respecting machine should have less than that anymore).

Is it possible ? Did I actually manage to scoop El Heggunte on this one ? Notch one for me then.
I've been doing whatever I could to exterminate CoPilot on several Win-10 machines. This has NOT been easy, and has NOT been fun !

found this - Windows 10 - remove copilot
Copilot is a feature in Windows 10 that provides AI-powered assistance to help you with various tasks. However, if you want to remove it, there are a few ways to do so.

Method 1: Disable Copilot using Group Policy Editor

Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
Type gpedit.msc and press Enter to open the Group Policy Editor.
Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, and then Windows Components.
Find the Copilot setting and toggle it off.

Method 2: Disable Copilot using PowerShell

    Open PowerShell as an administrator.
    Type Get-AppxPackage -All | Where-Object {$_.Name -like "*Copilot*"} | Remove-AppxPackage and press Enter to uninstall Copilot.

Method 3: Disable Copilot using the Taskbar

Right-click on the Taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
Uncheck the box next to Show Copilot button.

Method 4: Disable Copilot using the Microsoft Support website

Go to the Microsoft Support website and search for “Disable Copilot in Windows 10”.
Follow the instructions provided to disable Copilot.
Note: Disabling Copilot will remove the Copilot button from the Taskbar and disable its functionality. However, it will not completely remove the Copilot feature from your system.

It’s also important to note that Copilot is a feature that is designed to provide assistance and improve your overall Windows experience. If you’re having issues with Copilot, it’s recommended to troubleshoot the issue rather than disabling it entirely.

    GREAT.

Microsoft blocks Windows 11 workaround that enabled local accounts.

Many users use an e-mail trick to avoid creating a Microsoft account. This has now apparently been stopped by Microsoft.

Using OOBE\BYPASSNRO method still works but MS might close this option too.

Okay, THIS news is 3-months old already, BUT let's just assume it still is «up-to-date»

Windows 10 reaches 70% market share as Windows 11 keeps declining.

Gee, I wonder WHY ? Could it be that the product keeps getting WORSE and MORE INTRUSIVE with each subsequent version, ever since 7 ? (Some might say ever since XP . . . )

«Windows 11 is about to celebrate its third birthday. 😬
That also means that the initial release, version 21H2, and the first feature update, version 22H2, will soon be out of support. Microsoft has issued a notification in the official documentation to warn users that those two operating systems have only 90 days of support remaining. After that, Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2 will stop getting updates, security patches, and fixes.»

Well, update! It's not rocket science.

If you don't like it, install Openshell and Explorer Patcher. Win 7 here we come.
