Hello all,
Have been transferring analog Video8 tapes and keep running into this issue (snaps below). Flickering and jumping of the image. Sometimes it gets pretty bad.
My set up: Video8 tape -> Sony Camcorder -> USB-Live2 -> Amarec (Lagarith, null frames NOT enabled)
Playback issue in the camcorder? Problem with the decoder? Problem with the tapes?
My gut says camcorder issue, but people keep mentioning "dropped frames" in relation to their decoder cards. Is this that?
Any answers would be helpful, especially how to eliminate this problem.

These are time-base errors. Read the forum re TBC's and pass-though with dvd-recorders.

Thanks, DB83.
By finding out what TBC is, I realised it was not turned on in the camcorder! Problem seems to have gone away now that it is set to ON.
There is another setting: DNR. I assume this is dynamic noise reduction? It is turned off.
Next major question: s-video will only transmit in B&W. Any ideas?
Cheers. -
Is there a specific output setting on the camcorder for s-video and, indeed a s-video plug/socket ?
If there is then it may be a quirk of the NTSC on Pal tv/NTSC 4.43 setting due to the different chroma levels between PAL and NTSC although you appear to have got it to work under composite.
What I noticed earlier when I ran through AmarecTV for another topic it would not display a NTSC tape for PAL60 -
Thanks.
There is an s-video socket but no specific setting in the camcorder for s-video output, only A/V->DV OUT, which is set to OFF. I tried with ON and it made no difference.
Composite works fine, as you say, just seeing if I can get the better image quality of s-video.
Only thing I've seen in the forums on this is it could be a defective or cheap s-video cable (mine is new and wasn't particularly cheap). Unfortunately, I have no other equipment with which I can check to see if that's the case.

Just be sure you have not inadvertingly bent one of the pins on the cable.

Is your capture card/software is set for S-Video?
The artifact shown above is called flagging, it's line timing errors, The line TBC should get rid of it, also you want DNR ON to clean up the chroma signal. -
Thanks.
Both in the capture software for the usb-live2 and in Amarec the settings are for s-video.
DB83 alerted me to TBC and I've now set it to ON in the camcorder. DNR is set to ON as well.
Cheers.
