I've seen this problem posted a few times but not been able to find a solution. Regardless of the codec I choose, the output avi is green even though the preview picture is perfect. I'm capturing VHS through an ion video2pc usb adapter which works fine through OBS but I want to capture the proper interlaced source as is and apparently obs can't do that so I tried virtualdub.

I tried disabling direct x in the virtualdub settings (suggested as a workaround in another post) and I have the latest drivers for my graphics card, GTX 960. I'm on windows 10.

Is there anything else I can try?
    Thanks!

Mine's solid green throughout. Audio works though.

Just to be certain we are on 'the same page' (if this is not) do a short 10 sec capture sample using Lagarith and upload that to this topic as an attachment.

If you already have a Lagarith capture with this defect then use avidemux to snip 10 secs of it using the A/B markers. Select 'copy' for video and audio and save with output set to 'avi muxer'

Beyond that you will have to declare the settings on each vdub page - screen caps of the pages will be more useful. The aim is to replicate the issue and thus determine the solution.

Ok. it is now confirmed that there is no video data in the sample.

Now we need to establish why and, as I originally wrote, require each setting in vdub that you used.

    A few things I noticed.

This is vdub2. The Lagarith codec is not an installed one but the plug in version.

Having said that, I tested these and I do get a picture.

So what does the 'device' page say ?

    Let me revise that.

I was reviewing the wrong recording. But I done two more and there are pictures in these. And no obvious change in settings. Really strange this.

Well I have replicated the issue.

Only thing is repeating what I thought as causing the problem did not have the same effect.

    Back to the drawing board.

    Nudge back !!!

Device drivers are typically the problem with Win10. I assume that your device did not come with any and you are using the default one.

My only other suggestion, since there appears nothing wrong with your capture settings, is to try another capture program which will also give you full interlaced output.

And it is easier to set up as well - AmarecTv (you will need a full Lagarith codec since the one you used was internal to vdub2)

Thank you AmarecTv+Lagarith is working as long as I don't capture audio. If I have audio selected in the settings I get "Err: acmStreamOpen". This is my settings page

Did you try either of the first two audio options ? And do you hear audio in the pre-capture preview ?

You have options that are not present in my selection which makes it difficult to diagnose. But do also check what device is set as default for audio recording under Windows itself.

Yep tried every option. I selected the vcr2pc in both video and audio as it's the only way to see and hear the vhs playing in the pre-capture preview. In control panel the vcr2pc doesn't show up as an audio recording device though but it does work on obs.

So what is the default audio recording device ?

In control panel there's a green tick next to my usb microphone (listed as "Blue Sn?" in Amarec) so i assume that's the default.

Not familiar with the way Windows10 reports these - Win7 explicitly states 'Default Device' and also shows a 'green tick'.

My best guess now is a hardware conflict since the audio is getting through. You might simply try and unplug the usb mic to see if that makes any difference.

Other than that I would suggest you start a fresh topic explicit to this error eg " No recorded audio in AmarecTv". Someone who has had this experience may read that but not be inclined to open this particular topic.

    Now this is 'interesting'.

So I unplug my usb capture device, which was reported as the default recording device, and then re-check the recording properties.

Windows now reports that the default recording device is 'Microphone'.

There is only one problem here.

I do not have a microphone.

Solved! I had audio capture set to mp3. When I switched it to uncompressed it captured fine. So although I still can't use virtualdub at least I appear to have a workable solution. Thanks for your help!

Had the dreaded green screen files with VDub here too; only on x264 exports though. Never worked out why.
