  1. hi, i just got a new sony DV camcorder and i am trying to put my movie that i have recorded with it onto my computer to convert to SVCD or XVCD...i know alot about the converting process....but i know nothing about the capturing...can someone help me...i have read all the help files but it dosent say anything about capturing through a USB connection....i tried VirtualDub and a Ulead program.but nothing wiil captuer without it being very poor quality and loosing alot of frames (and im getting no audio either...but i will deal with that after i can get some acceptable video working)...any tips or links to sites that deal with uploading/capturing with USB would be greatly appreciated ..thanks ...Jesse

    Which Sony camcorder - most i have seen ONLY use the USB for still image export not video. Use your cameras 1394 (firewire port)
    to export the DV data stream through a firewirecard.

    Virtual Dub WILL NOT capture DV

    Unless you have an old machine ,most P2 and better with ATA66 interface, can handle the 3.7 Mb/sec that DV needs.

    Do the usual $hit ... defrag, close non essential processes if frame loss continues.

  3. I suspect you are trying to do an analogue capture from a DV camcorder using the composite out from the camcorder. This is not the way to capture from a DV cam. Like holistic said get a firewire card. They are only about £20. You use this to transfer the digital video direct from your tape to yout hard drive. So as you are not capturing, you are transferring, there is no quality loss.
