Cutting and Trimming video clip with VirtualDub

I have an MKV clip I want to chop the advert break out, but in my nievity when setting the start and end points, when I save I end up with just the bit I want to get rid of. Eg instead of cutting whats in the blue box, I keep it. Is there a quick method of inverting the process, or do I have to create two blue boxes so to speak, so that I loose the bit in between. Thanks for any help

To remove a section: mark-in, mark-out, Edit -> Delete. Do that for each section you want to remove, then save.
