  1. Fist time poster, so hope I posted this in the right place. I have a computer that has locally saved high quality HD video files (MKV, H264) that I have no problem playing using VLC. However when I go to a website and try to play live streams via a browser, the video is extremely choppy and not very high quality. I can lower the streaming resolution down to 480 or lower and it still doesn't help. Could it be my on board video card even though VLC plays fine? I've included screen shots of the PC specs. I've tried it with Chrome, Firefox and Edge browsers.

Internet service is 60Mbps. Other computers on my network stream this video without any issues.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Good thought and sorry I should have included that. It's a 60Mbps service. Speed test download hits 59Mbps.

  4. Well, considering the CPU and GPU are like 15 years old (and barely mid range then), they are most likely struggling to play that video via streaming.
Have you opened task manager to see CPU usage?
Most likely you'll see high CPU usage. The processor is struggling.

Try disabling hardware acceleration on browser settings or updating your graphics driver

Yeah it's an old HTPC. I thought since it played local video files so well that it shouldn't have an issue with online streaming. But you were right, the CPU is pinned. I should have thought of checking that, my bad.

Since this is all I use this for, do you think this mobo would be good enough if I upgraded the CPU and added a GPU or just I scrap it as well? If so, what would you recommend for a CPU?

    Thanks for your help!

Tried that. Didn't help enough. Thanks for trying. CPU and GPU are just too old.
