  1. Hello everybody, sorry that I'm a newbie and don't know if this is the right place to ask this. I don't mind if my thread get's moved or deleted.

I'm trying to play a pretty old video file and the information says I need the Elsa codec to play it. This seems to be a pretty obscure codec from an old graphics card. Everywhere I've looked that has hosted this codec in the past either has an expired link or just ed2k links that won't download. Even the Elsa website is defunct. The fourcc link doesn't work either. It's really bothering me and I'm starting to obsess a little bit.

I'm not sure anyone still has it or knows where to find a downloadable copy, but if anyone does, please let me know.

    I use Windows 10.

  2. ELSA-Website (https://www.elsa-jp.co.jp/) works fine here, but I doubt that they still offer a decoder for your file.
But you might be lucky if you write their support in a friendly way. (May be they still got a copy in some archive and are willing to search for it and share it.)

You might also have luck looking at some old ELSA driver&co cds over at https://archive.org/details/software

  3. Thanks for the suggestion. Doesn't seem very promising. It's too difficult to contact support on that website. I did download some Elsa products from the archive hoping to find the codec in one of the iso files, but couldn't see it anywhere.

Anyway, thanks again for your effort. I will keep trying.

There may not be a stand-alone codec, it might only get installed as part of another product. Also look to see if there is an editor or player software in the iso, that might be the only way to view that video.

  5. I was able to email somebody on a site that once hosted the codec, to my surprise this morning there was a link to download it in my inbox. I'm not home right now and can't try it out yet, but I will drop a quick line if I was able to play the file. It's a pretty old codec so I guess I should make sure I have a good restore point set before I install it. LOL. Something so small probably wouldn't hurt my laptop too much anyway, if it wasn't compatible.
