  1. Hello All,

A few of the VHS tapes I captured had audio sync problems. The problem is usually small - less than 1 second - and a recapture usually solves it. I am using VirtualDub to capture my tapes using a lossless encoder. I would appreciate your feedback on the settings that I am using in VirtualDub for my capture, especially the "Capture Timing" options. Below, you will find some of my settings.

    Hi

    I have a similar problem.

I used a DVB-C USB device w/ tune capability with null settings and
use Virtualdub app to do fullscreen capture.

After recording the whole movie I flushed down the file with
sound desyncd which was very frustrating for me alot and deleted it.

    What hw are you using?

  4. Hello All,

Just closing the loop on this thread for everyone's benefit.

After some investigation and trial-and-error, I managed to capture my tapes without any audio synch issue using the setup described in my previous post. In my case, the content is NTSC, 29.97. It is compressed as YUY2, 720x480. I use lossless video compression "UtVideo YUV422 BT.601 VCM".

I found a very nice resource here.

    Here is a summary:
    - Turn off audio monitoring. Use only the sound monitor.
    - Use preview mode for Video
    - Use the Capture Timing settings as shown in the snippet below.
    - Don't do other things in your computer while you are encoding. In my case, VDub was the only application running. I also turned on "Airplane mode".
    - Note that in my case, CPU, Memory, and I/O were never an issue. If you suspect contention in any of those resources, you will need to monitor them carefully.
