Guys, here is the question: can both formats (NTSC and Pal) be recorded on the same DVD, so it will be playable in US and Russia? Here is what my thoughts on this, please correct/advise me. Assuming both formats can be on same DVD, inserting DVD into player would play initial menu in NTCS format for, let's say 5 sec, then play the same menu in Pal format for 5 sec, and cycle through these two until user makes a selection (press a button or something on particular screen). Why that, 'cause i was thinking NTSC format will not be visible on Pal TV, so it will be all scrumbled, and only when disk switches to Pal it will be visible on TV, that's when user will make a choice, same for NTSC TVs, and once format choosen, layout and present them with further menues and film. I'm assuming that both of these formats can be on the same disk is because i've read somewhere that DVD players are not system specific, they just read and output data in whatever format it was encoded in, and it's TV that does the decoding, if it is true, then what i want to acomplish should be doable... Yes?No?....
....OR.. is there a way to check a region code of the player and play correct format right from the start???

The TV doesn't do any decoding, that's the DVD's job, it detects what type your TV is, and plays the movie accordingly.
If it would be possible to put two formats on the same media, then I believe the DVD will playback according to the TV it detected.Email me for faster replies!

How would DVD detects what TV is being used??? All it does OUTPUTS the signal, it cant detect what TV system you have, it cant detect if you have Progressive Scan cabable TV or not because it DOSNT get anything back from the TV, YOU have to set it up. I have both, Pal and NTSC discs, DVD player would play them regardless, it's the TV job to process the signal, I dont think player can make that determination, it needs to be done through software or code checking. I'll try it with the menu switching and let you guys know, meanwhile, any more opinions?
