I am not sure if I should post here or in the Mac forum, but I will try here.
I am from Europe but live in the US. I may have to back to Europe in a year or so, which is why I am going with PAL in a NTSC country (also because my ambition is to copy my DV to 35mm film).
In a couple of days I will buy:
- Canon XL1S PAL
- Mac G4 with superdrive incl. 2 monitors
- Final Cut Pro 3
- PAL/NTSC monitor
- Samsung World Wide VCR (multi signal NTSC/PAL)
I will shoot PAL footage which I will edit on my Mac using FCP3. Until I can afford a DVdeck (Sony DSR11) I will record my PAL master tape on my XL1S. But once a while I will have to make VHS copies to show to my DV crew, friends and producers. I will use the WW VCR which can convert PAL DV to NTSC VHS. And it is also easy to record PAL VHS copies as well as use the Mac superdrive to burn PAL MPEG2 DVDs.
My question what do I do when I want to burn NTSC MPEG2 DVSs? How do I do the conversion?
I don't mind that the conversion doen't have to be broadcast quality (similar to the VHS conversion), because if I need broadcast quality I will just have my master DV PAL tape be converted by a professionel conversion house.
Thanks in advance for the replies.
Thomas

the way i'd do it is use media cleaner pro, they have easy to use templates... it not the fastest software though... I've heard that final cut pro can do compression though you might want to look into that...
