    Is there a reason just about every professional old video transfer seems to have this dot crawl problem (I take it this was probably from 1-inch Type C videotape)?

    I don't know about poor deinterlace. The main errors I see are on pure diagonal lines, and even QTGMC can choke at times. I think the bigger issue is softer capture with bad sharpening post-deinterlace.

    It really does look like a DV conversion. The "KICKOFF" banner at the start of the video really gives it away, all the jaggy red with a hue changes, block noise around the letters. Main lesson here: Don't use DV converters. Those are crap.
