Sony Handycam playback problem

Hi I have just dug out my very old Sony Handycam DCR-TRV140 with a few Hi8 home recordings. I'd like to transfer them to PC. I've not touched in at least a decade. The camcorder turned on, tho battery very dead, and played a cassette that had been left in it, but the screen has a thick black band across it AND is playing the top part of recording below the band and the bottom half above it. Any ideas? I've run a head cleaner thru it to no avail. I've uploaded a photo. Thanks.
