Hi. I recently purchased a few reels of tape from a second-hand store and am having problems identifying what medium of tape it is and what kind of player I would need to play it back and/or convert it to digital. Here are a couple of photos of what the reels and film look like. The tape appears to be approx 5/8" or 16mm wide. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  2. It's not tape. It's 16mm film mounted on a core.

The fact that it is double-perf, color and has no soundtrack suggests it is either a workprint or a reversal camera original.

To play back it needs to be mounted on reels and projected or run as is on a flatbed editing machine such as Steenbeck or Moviola.

Many labs have the capability to scan the film and digitize it.

^^ A little typo. I guess you meant to write 16mm.

i think you meant to type 16mm film, not 6mm. i'd guess made with a consumer camera, they didn't have audio for the most part.

bell & howell made lots of projectors for it.
