Is LP VHS being read by SP head or EP head?

When you play a LP VHS tape on a VCR which only does SP and EP, which head does it use?

Depends on the model, manufacturer and generation of the VCR, essentially the design of the video head. In other words there is no answer to your question as formulated.

As dellsam34 said it depends but if it's an old 70 micron SP head VCR it will undoubtedly use the narrower 19 micron EP heads, the SP heads would pickup adjacent tracks. If it's a newer 4 or 5 video head VCR with narrower special effects heads, it could use a pair of those to pick up LP video tracks.
