    What I actually have is an MKV whose subtitles are the DVD's original IFO graphics. These subtitles are of course DVD resolution, in addition to being filled with errors that I wish to correct, so I need to convert them to one of the standard text-based formats. So whatever app makes this doable, that's what I need.

  2. Use File - > Import subtitle from matroska in Subtitle Edit and perform the OCR.

    Select the format in top of the Subtitle Edit window.

    Thanks. All I needed. Though anyone from the future interested in this knowledge will be well-advised to change the search type to Tesseract 4.1.0. The default search gave a lot of errors and no convenient way of rectifying them.
