VVC, pretend to be the successor of the HEVC, but most importantly, it is supposed to produce only half of data produced by AVC and HEVC with the same video parameters. So end of 15-25GB streams is comming.
But in other side old HEVC should replace very old AVC, but it still doesn't.
Do you know when VVC could be available? It is already half a year old, but still no codec available. I can't wait to check if really as good as they say.

It's never as good as the up to 50% improvement claim vs previous gen and it will be years before it is widely available.
That said you would hope it can actually provide 50% compression efficiency vs avc, given how slow it will likely be to encode. -
Realistically, I would wait 5 years before revisiting this codec for ANYTHING beyond experimental purposes. Much needs to change in the meantime: the codec's code, processor efficiency (both encode & decode), licensing, corporate market uptake...

> Even if it's not an exaggeration, it only applies to low quality levels. The higher the quality, the less difference there is between CODECs
Are you telling me that I can use the divx or xvid encoder to tip a 8khd bluray and would see no difference with HEVC, vvc, or av1?
This is a surprising call. -
