When the “Make Movie” tab is selected in Pinnacle Studio 11 ultimate, an “Out of Memory” error comes up and shuts down the program. See attached screen print.

Have increased Virtual Memory but that has not helped. The program worked great for years until this error popped up.

Note this this occurs whenever you click the "Make Movie" tab even if no file has been loaded.

Does any one have an answer?

  2. Don't know anything about that software, but : if you check the Task manager when this happens, is the amount of RAM allocated to the corresponding process indeed abnormally high ? What O.S. is the computer running on ? Has there been any significant change before this problem appeared ?

  3. Let Windows manage the virtual memory size, don't select fixed limits.

Task Manager jumps to 175,000K when the error pops up.
This PC is running Windows XP and no system changes have been made.
As to the virtual memory size, I tried moving it real high but that did not help. I changed it back to allow the system to set the limit.
Since this occurs even when a video file has not been opened, it appears to me that the issue is something else.

Don't use Pinnacle software. It's terrible.
    Always buggy, always crashing.

Well, that looks like a shot in the dark... If it's only affecting that one software, it's unlikely to be a hardware issue. (I was thinking of suggesting to check the SMART status of any involved HDD / SSD, but likewise it doesn't seem so wise — although it sure wouldn't hurt.)

Task Manager jumps to 175,000K when the error pops up.
175MB is not that much, even Firefox can eat up way more than that. Not enough to explain the crashes. (When I used Windows XP, RAM usage for a single process had to reach about 2GB for it to crash.)
No other weirdness ? No reason to suspect that a malware could be the culprit ?
Have you tried a Web search with a specific part of the error message, surrounded with quotation marks ?
Otherwise, the stock replies to that kind of SNAFU, which I don't like (as I'd rather spend more time solving the issue but actually understand what went wrong than sweeping it under the rug and moving on but being none-the-wiser) and which you may know already, in ascending order of boldness and/or hopelessness :
    – re-installing the software
    – restoring the system to an earlier date, before the problem appeared
    – re-installing the O.S. and everything (I hate that one !)
    – if all else fails use fire

  8. That version requires Microsoft Windows XP SP2. Do you have SP2 installed?

Apparently it worked fine before, so that is moot. (And who in their right mind would run Windows XP without SP2 at the very, very least ?)

I also did a complete removal using Revo then reinstalled the Pinnacle software... Same result. All other software is working OK.
Its almost like Pinnacle somehow reached into my PC and added something to make me want to buy their newer version... something I absolutely do not plan to do.

Thanks for the detail requirements. Not sure what you were getting at... Studio 11 has been running on this PC successfully for many years. I have not need to use it for a few months but it has been working thus my PC meets the requirements.

  12. Then try chkdsk x: /f (where x is the drive letter) for all your drives. Maybe Windows cannot increase the virtual memory because of a faulty drive.

Run chkdsk as suggested... found no problems.

UPDATE... While I have not found a way to resolve this "Out of Memory" fatal error, I have found a way around it.

Everything I have read on the internet has stated this version of Studio WILL NOT WORK ON WINDOWS 10. In fact, I tried to install and run V11 on Windows 10 a few months ago and it would not run.

In desperation I tried again and loaded the entire job onto my Windows 10 PC and IT WORKS!!!

How or why it works now on 10 is a mystery to me unless Corel was just saying that to get me to update beyond version 11. Have used must of the parts within Studio and no issues. It worked without using Compatibility mode.
