  2. I believe I have converted M2V to MPEG with TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools (file - mpeg tools - simple multiplex).
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  3. no offense to ya Mirror_Image but that doesnt work.

What you need to do is just like any other conversion with tmpgenc and load the .m2v video file then select the vcd template and pick a file name and start and wait 10 - 15 mins for it to get done. The only thing I sometimes have problems with is that tmpgenc will freeze on certain frames on videos its not a common occurence but it when it happens it always happens in the same spot in that video making you unable to convert it. no one has been able to help me with this prob yet.

No offense taken! Like a greasy politician, I left myself some wiggle room with the "I believe" hedge.

  5. Um, you could try renaming it to .mpg. Many people just rename MPEG2 mpeg files to m2v in order to indicate what it is... don't know why it causes a lot of confusion.

No need to convert. A .M2V file is a elementry stream mpeg2 video file. Now, if you want a program stream, then Mirror_Image told you how to do this (by multiplexing the file with a .MPA, or .AC3 or other acceptable mpeg audio file).

  7. The best way I found was to use DVD2AVI and create a project for tmpg

  8. hey
ok i renamed the file to MPG and it messed it up. how do I get it back to the original? or is that not possible?

  9. Guys guys guys -- m2v is an MPEG-2

    there are two valid options!

    1) get a mpeg-2 codec or filter (both over in the tool section) and then drag your M2V into TMPGEnc - and convert to VCD as normal

    2) use DVD2AVI to create a project file and then use that .d2v file and the mpa file to convert in TMPGEnc

ok - it's like this - to convert an MPEG-2 you need an MPEG-2 codec - just like DivX -- no matter what you rename a DivX to it will never play in MS Media Player or open in TMPGEnc if the DivX codec isn't installed ... that is the same with MPEG-2 ... you need the codec -- we are used to MPEG-1 files being easy to open and manipulate becasue the codec comes with windows.

myth: changing m2v to mpg will help

myth: using TMPGEnc tools without the correct codec will help (it will only demultiplex and that does not help)

fact: if you can open it in MS Media Player you can open it directly in TMPGEnc

fact: DVD software does NOT install an 'system' MPEG-2 codec (thats why you can watch MPEG-2 files in DVD software but can not open them in TMPGEnc without a seperate codec installed)

I hope that helps clear some things up

  10. thanx for the replys

    now i have another problem.

I try and open the video file in TMPGEnc and I get an illegal stream format. grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

    now what?

  11. and you did what? create a d2v project file? install an mpeg-2 codec??

go under Options-Env Settings-VFAPI Plugins and make sure your direct show filter is set to 0 (zero)

if that doesnt work go with the DVD2AVI method

  12. ok i tryed the DVD2AVI way.

saved it as an D2V file, then tried opening it in TMPMG, but I still get the error of Illegal stream format.

Yes I have the MPEG2 codec installed.

  13. The DVD2AVI way and the MPEG-2 codec way are not related

if you installed an MPEG-2 codec you should be able to drag and drop your file right into TMPGEnc

if TMPGEnc won't take your .d2v file make sure you have downloaded and run the VFAPI package from TMPGEnc .. if you didn't install that it will never accept your d2v

  14. ok that worked
but why can't I encode it into an MPG?? all it gives me is an M1V stream output.

is there anyway to remove the M1V video format exstension and have a true MPG?

  15. Ok your guilty of what a lot of posters are doing lately - not giving us enough info to work with.

WHAT WORKED ??? DVD2AVI ?? Did you load the .d2v ??? did you drag the file into TMPGEnc ???

does the original have audio and video? what program is giving you a m1v output?

do you see what I'm saying here - you know "what worked" -- but from my side, sitting here at work trying to help you, I have NO IDEA what to suggest next because of too few details.

In my previous post I suggested numerous things - I'm guessing one helped - but I don't know which.

(don't take offence to the format of my reply here - my tone is not angry or upset - just trying to get my point across)
