  1. I have a paid premium version of Freemake Downloader and converter. Recently, Bitdefender is recognizing this software as an active trojan and will not let me run it. As a matter of fact it disables the software and forces me to uninstall it. If I try to visit the website to re-install it I am even locked out of the website. Has anybody encountered this. I sent and email to Freemake support and all they did was acknowledge that their is a problem and offered no solution to fix it.

Just do a google search. It's been suspected for quite a long time, rightly or wrongly, that Freemake
may include some "extra's". Read up on it, then make your own decision as to whether you want it on your system

There is also really free freeware, without branding of a demo version. And possibly even more powerful. The better you know what you need, the better we can recommend some.

  4. Get rid and don't use it! I made the mistake once of installing it(even unticking the offers it put in the installer)and still a load of crapware was installed, probably because I didn't install it offline or something. The 1 pass h264 gives abysmal quality encodes and the 2 pass is so so decent in Freemake, but no way are you maximising potential quality of good source inputs. Up to you.

I often use the basic Super Simple Converter from Gromada mainly because it gives good quality and has nice presets, is fast without too much of quality loss for recodes etc or Avidemux because it has good filters for sharpening etc and is in active development. Both freeware.
