Well, I've seen similar posts, but non of them have been able to help me.

I have the webrips of the Skywalker Saga in 4k, and as you may know all of them are in HDR hevc h.265 10 bit format. Unfortunately I don't have an HDR monitor to see them in that format, so you know how they look.

Is there a way to convert them to another format like mp4 or mov WITHOUT loosing quality? Is there any way to convert them to an SDR format (eliminate HDR) without making them look discolored?

I've tried to use handbrake, but it just compressed the mkv I was trying to convert from 20gb to 3gb, didn't really helped.

I'm planning on using them for editing in a software that obviously has problems with these kind of formats and doesn't accept mkv (premiere).

  2. this probably collides with one of the forum rules:
Do NOT talk about warez releases
Like filenames Movie.2012.DVDSCR.X264.AAC.P2P.mkv. Please don't download warez movie/tv releases.
so I'll not suggest anything specific and try to give general answers.

Not unless you use lossless compression which would cause an explosion in the file size.

There are multiple ToneMapping filters for Avisynth/Vapoursynth/FFMpeg which allow HDR to SDR conversion. 'Under saturation' only happens if you simply drop the HDR information.

Afaik. Handbrake offers no support for encoding to HDR or converting HDR to SDR.
https://www.avsforum.com/threads/guide-easily-encode-your-hdr-uhd-bd-freeware.3008882/ uses StaxRip, but there are tons of other tools which do have HDR2SDR conversion options.
