Hello. This may be a super simple problem for the smart folks here. In which case I'll be out of your hair in no time. I didn't know what question to ask you actually.

I've always been able to record video on my Canon PowerShot A1100 IS and then transfer it to my computer (Asus Vivobook, win 10, 64 bit) and do what I want with it, include upload it to Bitchute. (I just plug the SD card directly into my laptop.) I couldn't edit it in Avidemux (just cropping it which is all I know how to do) either. I tried this and that, but I'm clueless about video, so I didn't go crazy. I just changed the output. The only thing Avidemux would do is 'dummy', but I have zero idea what that means and it doesn't register on my computer. It shows as mkv. The file says AVI. That setting in Avidemux doesn't work. I reformatted the SD card. No luck. I asked a guy at The Source here in Toronto what it might be and he said that if I can playback the video on my camera, there should be no problem. I can. I can play it back on my laptop. I just can't edit it or upload it. Should I try a new SD card? Another other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

try reading the AviDemux tutorial - https://www.avidemux.org/admWiki/doku.php?id=build:doctop
can you try connecting your camera to your computer via USB cable and transferring the video that way ??

I didn't need the tutorial before. I don't use Avidemux differently now and I don't use it for anything other than clipping videos (lenthwise). I wouldn't know how to do more. And I wouldn't understand the jargon in the manual. Read my post.
