  1. All,

Newbie here. This looks like a great forum! After searching, I just wasn't able to answer my question. Perhaps you can help?

    First of all, specs:

    PIII 900 mHz
    256 RAM
40 GB, 7200 RPM dedicated capture drive
    Dazzle DVC-USB Capture device

    Next, the problem:

I have captured a large (537 MB) MPEG from a DVD using Dazzle MovieStar's VideoCD capturing template.

Everything seems to be fine and in sync.

I create a VCD from the file using Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.

When I play the VCD in my new Panasonic CD-R/W compatible player (and every other player I've tried), it works great... FOR ABOUT 25 MINUTES. Then the audio starts skipping and soon... POOF. The audio is gone.

    Finally, the confusing bits:

I don't think the audio is actually out of sync with the video in the MPEG.

Why do I think that? It plays fine start to finish on my PC.

The burned VCD (that failed on the set-top boxes) also plays perfectly on my Sega Dreamcast w/VCD player software.

Which brings us to the question:

Why won't it play any longer than 25-30 minutes in any CD-R/W compatible VCD players?

EDIT: Yes, I have tried burning the disc again and I have tried using a different MPEG file. I fear it may have something to do with the length of the file. Do large MPEGs need to be "chopped up" into smaller clips before burning?

    Hi,

Try burning your CDs at no more than 75% of their rated speeds.

  3. Do you have a DVD rom, If so why dont you do a DVD rip, you will get better quality that way. Look at the guides on the left.

  4. Allan55, thanks for the idea. I'm only burning at 4x, though. The media is, I'm sure, 12x.

craigtucker, indeed I do have a DVD-ROM. I'm more comfortable with traditional capturing/editing, though, than I would be with Ripping methods.

Everyone, I still have not resolved this problem, and a few new things have happened.

I tried creating the disc with VCDEasy instead of EZCD5... same problem.

Also, the audio is not "skipping" or "going out of sync" as I initially thought... the whole video is slowing down and playing frame by frame.

The audio problem I thought I heard was really just the DVD player producing frame by frame audio.

    Any new ideas?

    TIA,

  5. personally i think its jsut your dvd player

or the media.... some dvd players tend to be picky as hell with media
especially dont use the cheapies or worse the totally blancs
and try burning it slow, ive had this prob in the past with my old dvd [it sucked] and when i burned them at 1x speed they seemed to play fine

also experiment with some media brands...

its just a regular vcd tho? no xvcd or whatever?
    good luck!
