  1. Recently, BBC World Service changed their live audio stream url. I used to be able to put a certain url into vlc and it would play the audio in vlc. But no more. The live stream website is here:
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live:bbc_world_service
This will play the audio in the website. But I don't want to do it that way; I want the audio to play in vlc. The advantage of this is that the audio will play immediately. Having to get the audio through the BBC website is more problematic.
I tried to use the browser developer tools when playing the website audio, but I wasn't able to find anything that would work in vlc.
    So my question is:
I am looking for the stream url (mp3, m3u8, pls, xspf, asx, etc) that will play in vlc.

look for mpd instead then use vlc
    vlc "https://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/dash/nonuk/dash_low/aks/bbc_world_service.mpd"

  3. Thank you for the fast responses. I am using Windows 7 and vlc 2.2.4 Weathermax and could not get either of the mpd to play in vlc (media>open network stream>enter network url).
However, I was able to get all 8 streams to play (from AllisOne), except for the first 6 in the HTTP 56kbp/s mp3 category, I could not play.
AllisOne: can you tell me how you got those 8 url streams?

I used version 3.0.8. Could be region issues too.

I created a playlist for all the main BBC stations many years ago. I use AIMP as my audio and radio player, because it has tabs feature and you can have many different thematic playlists separately. I think a few years ago BBC killed their http aac+ and wma streams, so I started searching the net to find new ones and recreate it. At that time people owning internet radios were on top of it, furious that they can't listen to BBC stations (later the problem was hls/dash format) on their receivers. I found one link or two to the stream and played with parts of the url to recreate working urls for the rest of the stations. Now you can find them online or even obtain them from BBC itself, but it might take some time.

    http://www.mathewpeet.org/lists/BBC_radio_audio_streams/

I've attached my 2 playlists for main BBC radio stations (Radio 1, Radio 1Xtra, Radio 1 Dance, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4FM, Radio 4LW, Radio 4Extra, Radio 5 Live, Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, Radio 6 Music, Asian Network, World Service, Radio London), if anybody wants them.

Could you attach the file not in rar format? I can't open the one you attached ( says corrupted).
Edit: Very strange. I used winrar tool (version 3.5 beta 1, 2005) to extract the archive but get error to open.
    Then I used
    https://extract.me/
online extractor and was able to open the archive.
Archive contains m3u8 file that can be opened with Notepad.
Does anybody know why winrar couldn't open the file, but online extractor works?

  7. I could download it logged in and not logged in. Rar file is OK and m3u8 playlists work, when unpacked and dropped into AIMP window. m3u8 file is not allowed as attachment. So change .txt to .m3u8 after downloading files.

    Edit: I used WinRAR 5.91.

  8. AllisOne,
OK, I updated the Winrar to 5.91 and I can open the archive and see there are 2 files in the archive. Thank you for the info.

  9. Archive programs like WinRAR, WinZip, etc. add new compression algorithms all the time (internally they have many different algorithms and use whatever works best for a particular file). So a 15 year old version of WinRAR is probably missing many of the newer algorithms.

  10. I've just updated my BBC streams playlists - there's some changes, for example: a new online channel BBC Radio 1 Relax (aac HLS only), new servers (aks and cfs, llnwd is gone), 128 and 320kbps for non-UK are gone, etc. Change .txt to .m3u8.

Could be, but I doubt that. I think there's something wrong with the links on that page.

try using the Brave / chrome addon called the stream recorder - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stream-recorder-download/iogidnfllpdhagebkblkgbfijkbkjdmm just set the switch to capture and play the stream and then you can download it.

  17. Defnitively a VPN issue. Switched to HMA works great now with youtube-dl.

    Thanks to all.
