Here is my feeble attempt to save us all from reading the same questions day after day after day...
So, following is a few commonly asked questions on the board, along with links to posts with advice that should help:

    1) Illegal floating decimal point calculation order
    http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=87438&highlight=illegal+floating+decimal+point

    2) I can't save my wav from my divx avi in virtualdub
    http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=83221&highlight=ac3+divx

    3) Audio is in sync with video on source, but not after encoding
    http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=88270&highlight=audio+sync

    5) How do I get rid of that annoying hissing sound in my movie?
    http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=88331&highlight=hiss

    6) I can play my file in media player, but TMPG gives only black screen
    http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=86209&highlight=direct+show+reader

and if these links don't help, try the search button...it actually works make sure to try your search using a few different terms if you don't get an answer on your first search before posting a new topic.

  2. Great post! except aud synch. The fastest and easiest is tmpgenc source range audio gap correct. If aud is ahead of vid then change audio gap correct numbers to negative and if vid is ahead of audio use positive numbers. Just be sure to make a 1-2 minute clip and check to see if in synch or change numbers until it is in synch. It's just that easy

I'm adding another tip here... I'm new to video encoding, and it took me hours to find out the solution to a problem I've had, so I post it here to help other people experiencing the same problem

    4) After encoding a DivX to VCD, I get a black screen with audio only

    - A Life? Cool! Where can I download one of those from?
    - I have a dream: 1,000,000,000,000 bytes free.
    - The box said: 'install on Windows XP, 2003 or better'. So I installed it on Linux.
    - Windows is NOT a virus. Viruses DO something
