When capturing my initial AVI file, what colour space should I use? I have a host of options available to me in VirtualDub, the default being YUY2. I have a Magewell Pro HDMI capture card.
After capturing the file, I would like to remove the black bars either side, stretch what's left to 768, and de-interlace with QTGMC, for playback on a computer (using square pixels), if that might influence my selection of colour space at capture-time.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

I would suggest you do some research first, there is already a lot of knowledge available through previous questions & answers, Google can be a great help, and may worker faster for you,
also if you first learn some of the basics that has been answered so many times.
Much more simpler software might work better for you, VirtualDub has a steep learning curve, with more basic knowledge you can do more with Virtualdub. -
YUY2(4:2:2) all the way until you get to your playback/distribution format, and then that would be YV12 (4:2:0).
