Have not had a chance to tear into it, but, I used my 'ripping' computer a week ago, been off ever since. Turned it on and it powered up for 2 or 3 seconds and shut off. Over and over. Actually, I have it & monitor & stereo speaker on a power strip. I turn off the power strip after powering down the computer normaly. Turn on power strip and above happens, one time. After first attempt, noyhing happens at all. I have to power off & then back on to repeat. I dont know, maybe the power supply? Like I said, have not had a chance to do anything, , , yet.

Also, I have not modified anything on the computer for months.
Yes, no, maybe, I don't know, Can you repeat the question?

  2. Sounds like a failing power supply to me...

...or onboard power delivery system on the motherboard (bulging or leaking capacitors are one sign).

About 10 minutes ago before anything else, I jiggled all the connections on the back of the computer in question. Lo and behold! It started right up! My kinda luck.

"Jiggling" is not the best idea. Better to fully unplug & fully reseat, confirming solidity of connection.

That also means to check your video card and ram and other devices internally since any kind of movement can get them going on/off.

  9. I had this with a friend's father's PC a couple of weeks ago. I'm guessing a bit of oxidation on some of the connectors . . . ?
