  1. I downloaded a movie with an .avi extension. Nothing I have seems to be able to play it. I have the divx codec installed. TMPGenc and VirtualDub both cannot open the file. Nor can Windows media player or DivX Player. How can I tell what format this really is? It's not a divx format because DivFix says its not (at least i think it's right!)...so I guess my question is, how do I find out what format this is?

  2. I am having almost the same problem. Only I was able to get VD to play it. The sound is choppy. Please tell me where to locate the divfix program you are talking about. The file I downloaded said it was a divx but when I request the file through it, all is does is keep the hour glass on. I have left it for at least 15 mins. and it still never loads. Thanks

download the nimo codec pack. and then play it and check under file->properties what codecs it uses.

  4. I downloaded the nimo pack crap...for one, I still can't play the movie, and secondly, not certian divx movies will only play in the divx player bundled with divx 5. They won't play in windows media player anymore. arg, too many codecs!

the divfix file can be located here:

  5. I have had nimo for awhile. Ive had good luck with it. I had checked the prop. so I knew it was DivX. My biggest problem is I've never worked with DivX and this is my first time. So I'm like a salmon swimming up stream. I guess I will just play with it more. Thank You both for your help.
