  1. Hello guys, i got an HP microserver PC that all its got for output(unless you place a graphics card) is a VGA output. And i want to connect it to an old Monitor i got that all its got is DVI-D input at 2560x1600. Will it work if i get a plain passive vga-dvid adapter such as this one

    There is no such thing as a passive VGA->DVI-D adapter. VGA is analog, DVI-D is digital.
    DVI-A is analog, and DVI-I ("Integrated") is a connector that supports both DVI-D and DVI-A in parallel but independently (so if the monitor had that, it would also be supporting DVI-A as well). If you had that (-A or -I), you could use a passive adapter.

    Without DVI-A or DVI-I, you will need a converter device of some sort.

    PC[VGA (f)] <(m)--VGA cable--(m)> [VGA(f)<->DVI-A(f)] <(m)--DVI-A cable--(m)> [DVI-A(f)]Monitor ... will work.

    PC[VGA (f)] <(m)--VGA cable--(m)> [VGA(f)<->DVI-I(f)] <(m)--DVI-I cable--(m)> [DVI-I(f)]Monitor ... will work.

    PC[VGA (f)] <(m)--VGA cable--(m)> [VGA(f)<->DVI-I(f)] <(m)--DVI-A cable--(m)> [DVI-I(f)]Monitor ... will work.

    PC[VGA (f)] <(m)--VGA cable--(m)> [VGA(f)<->DVI-I(f)] <(m)--DVI-D cable--(m)> [DVI-I(f)]Monitor ... will NOT work, but you can swap out the DVI cable to DVI-I, and it will.

    PC[VGA (f)] <(m)--VGA cable--(m)> [VGA(f)<->DVI-I(f)] <(m)--DVI-D cable--(m)> [DVI-D(f)]Monitor ... will NOT work.

    *Your device is mislabeled: it is VGA<->DVI-I (most likely) or VGA<->DVI-A. It is not and CANNOT be a VGA<->DVI-D, as that would need electrical power and an Analog->Digital converter section.

    So, yes, if what you have described so far (PC=VGA, adapter = VGA<->DVI-I*, Monitor=DVI-D) is correct, it will NOT work.

  5. Signal leave as analog from vga out, and reaches the adapter head as analog. So then its either dvi-a or dvi-i and goes in this form to my Monitor. And if Monitor only supports digital input it will diplay nothing right? My Monitor is the Samsung 305T, and here it says something about DVI-VGA

    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/483374-REG/Samsung_305T_SyncMaster_305T_30_Wide...7k102l1pj02fa9

    It features a dual-link DVI-D VGA input
    Later Today we will know for sure, what will happen. In case its doesnt work, which we speculate it will not, what more do i know to buy? Meaning what goes after the adapter to succesfully reach the monitor

    Read the specs page. Its says: Analog input: none, Digital input: 1x Dvi-d dual link. So, no it will not work.

    You are going to need something more like - https://m.markertek.com/product/adr-dva/adder-dva-analog-vga-video-to-dvi-d-single-lin...0aAskXEALw_wcB.
    It's small for a converter, and is powered either by usb or has its own power supply, so it bears a resemblance to the adapter you bought. But with this you won't need the adapter at all and can send it back.

    And it only supports up to "1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz".

  8. Nope. As advertised by my trusty friends this did not output any visual. I dont intend to buy a 100 euro accessory. I only wanted to pair an old screen to an old system. Dont even care about smaller resolution. If theres anything i can buy with 10 euros max then maybe i will otherwise its a a pass

    Not gonna happen. But you can probably find an old VGA CRT monitor for that amount!

  10. Can i at least find a VGA 2 RCA or Scart Cable so i can hook it to an old TV?

    A simple vga to scart cable will also not work. Some TV's actually have a PC socket (vga) for such a connection. To connect vga to a tv will also require a powered adapter to convert the signals accordingly.

  12. Only mildly related (and really already said to be fair): It depends on the output device and the TV. I have a Thomson DVD Player hooked up using component (NOT composite) to a TV using VGA (without extra power) but it only works because my TV supports that.

    Technical documentation is unfortunately becoming a rare thing...
