I have a Mac with a built-in camera. When I use Zoom, I can add a background image. How can I add a background image when I face the camera and record a video?

Green screen. You can google that to find out how to use a green screen in Zoom.

Like, with Zoom I can select a .jpg image and make it the background that appears behind my head. I'm looking for a similar tool for recording a video, not a physical background.

Google "virtual webcam" driver. Many of them have support for greenscreening or background replacement.
Then, use that virt. webcam as your video source to record.
