Hello all you magnificent video brains.

I am currently mildly desperate to download the video at https://www.svtplay.se/video/1715726/hjalp-sokes ... and especially its subtitle file. Nothing I've tried has worked. Firefox extensions simply display all the mp4 fragments. TVDownloader doesn't acknowledge this somewhat obscure Swedish site. Ye olde Pirateplayer app was last updated in 2013 and no longer works.

Some clues to a solution would be hugely appreciated! This particular video appears to be one of very few on this site not geoblocked outside Sweden. Its ABBA-related content is the attraction for me.

    Many thanks, in advance.

  2. Youtube-dl:

    Code:
    youtube-dl https://svt-vod-10g.akamaized.net/d0/world/20200506/eb026cfb-9eef-4856-94b0-c10f7cbaf29a/manifest.mpd
You can get the mpd URL with a browser's Developer Tools (F12, then reload the page).

Youtube-dl is an option, but for years there has been a specific tools for Scandinavian/Baltic sites (including SVTplay, viaplay, etc) called svtplay-dl, it's also a command tool.
All you need to do is call the .exe and put link to embeded video:
    Code:
    svtplay-dl.exe "https://www.svtplay.se/......"
In some cases it's better than youtube-dl.

Thank you so much jagabo. It's the "mpd" part that threw me. I was looking for m3u8 and other things like that. Never heard of mpd before but I'll definitely look out for it next time.

Thank you, that's great to know. I'm hoping it would work through a VPN, as that would be the only way to access many of the SVTPlay files outside Sweden.

  6. Sviests mentioned command line tool svtplay-dl and I've just remembered that there's GUI/program using that library called streamcapture2. I've never used it, but it's worth a try.

Nilzzon, thank you, that's brilliant. Can you please tell me how you located that? Youtube-dl-gui did not download the subtitles despite my selecting them.

  10. The subtitles files are often visible in the HTML code (View Page Source, search for "vtt").

    get nordVPN ...
i am currently on u.s. server, and watching SVTPlay via it. :P
download with pyIDM to get the subtitles aswell.
or,as someone said earlier.. open developer tools (F12), go to network tab,and filter "vtt"
and you get the direct link for the subtitles.. (in firefox atleast, you have to turn them ON first, for the link to pop up,cause they're OFF by default..)
    eg.
    Code:
    https://svt-vod-10g.akamaized.net/d0/world/20200506/eb026cfb-9eef-4856-94b0-c10f7cbaf29a/text/text0.vtt
...but,it's enough if you just paste the video url in pyidm,it downloads both the video+subtitles.
no need to open developer tools.

  14. I have a old pentium 4 with Vista Sp2. How can i use youtube-dl and svtplay-dl? I get that ffmpeg and ffprobe.exe is missing and i can't install the newest on this old computer. I got all visual c+ installed to.

I can download from Tv4 in Sweden without ffmpeg but on svt i only get 2 files very different from the ts format. I can't open the files but the program find the right program. Only the download file format gets wrong.

  15. 'youtube-dl' works on all platforms.

  16. Yes but i can't install newest ffmpeg on my old Vista computer.

  17. This site has older versions of ffmpeg that still work on Vista. They'll probably work with youtube-dl too -- since it's only use to (re)mux the audio and video (as far as I know). See the archived ffmpeg version history for comments regarding that.

  18. Thanks. Do you know when Vista was not up to date with ffmpeg? I could use in 2016.

  20. I know how to download from svt play with youtube-dl .mpd url and that works great. But is there any way to get name of video like the title of webpage.

    For example, this video

    have .mpd file:

and when you download it with "youtube-dl url" you will get "dash-avc-dash-avc.mp4" file

Is there any way to get "Bolibompa baby - Drakens garderob: Draken blir en gris | SVT Play" as video name, without manualy set as video name.

  21. Ok, that was easy, i gave you the wrong example .. but THANX LZAA

But, for many sites you cant download video just to enter website link, you need manifest.mpd link. I am sure you know that. So, i am asking again, is there any way to download video with manifest.mpd link (you can use the one from SVT play) and get webpage title, without manualy do anything after.
