  1. I've checked with the latest browser versions that run on XP.

The "Select Files" button is no longer showing for Pale Moon and Firefox.
It's there for Advanced Chrome and Slimjet, although the formatting/word wrapping isn't as nice.

I'm not sure if changing forum settings effects the My Files page. I haven't tried changing them.

    Thanks.

Have you tried a system restore prior to the button going missing to see it was a browser update that did that?

  3. I don't have system restore enabled, and not much is updated for XP these days. There's been no updates or XP friendly browser releases in quite a while, as far as I know.
I did however, update an add-on or two recently, so I restarted Firefox with add-ons disabled, but the button's still missing.

    Cheers.

    How about uninstalling and reinstalling?

  5. Is that the forum moderator equivalent of "have you tried turning it off and turning it on again"?

It's the same for two browsers, which is a mighty co-incidence, although admittedly computers are designed to torture users with co-incidence and lead them down a fault finding rabbit hole. Or is that just the ones I've owned?

If I can find the installation file, or the site where Firefox archives offline installation files so I can re-install it, I'll try turning it off and tuning it on again tonight if I can. Or early tomorrow.

    Cheers.

In this case though, I did clear the Firefox, Advanced Chrome and SlimJet caches first, but I was in the middle of doing something with Pale Moon.

Hmm. Doesn't they support the HTML form file inputs?

    I have changed to
    Code:
    <input type="file">
a long time ago. It should say Browse then.

The Select files was FLASH and is no longer supported by most browsers.

  9. Click in the empty space (or black rectangle) below "Upload files". This acivate a Flash Allow request. If you set allow, the select files button reappears.

    Sorry about the slow reply.

How long ago was a long time ago? It's only fairly recently it stopped working. Probably no more than a month.

I can't see any mention of flash in the list of Firefox plugins, but it is included with Advanced Chrome. When I disable it, there's no Select Files button on the My Files page, but there's no Browse button or link either.

Is there somewhere else on the site I can check for HTML form file input support? The other places for uploading files, such as adding attachments to PMs, are working normally.

    Cheers.

    Is it green?

The other places for uploading files uses the older form multipart/form-data.

Yes it's green and the browse button works as expected, so I guess there must be something odd going on with the My Files page.

While I'm thinking about it, there's been a long-standing issue with adding pictures to PMs (from a local computer).
After the "Upload Image" window opens, clicking on the "From Computer" link does nothing.
If you click "From URL" first, then "From Computer", the window opens for browsing for an image (although it seems to be more a generic file browser than image specific). After an image is selected for adding to a PM though, nothing happens.

    Thanks.

I don't think the PM file upload has worked for a long time. This is a very very old forum now.

A "allow flash" dialog appears.Confirm this with "Allow". Afterwards you can choose your picture and upload it.

It might be a bit late for me to check that now Baldrick has changed things, but I don't think Pale Moon supports flash. Which browser do you use? Or are you using a FlashBlock plugin? I remember having to do that sort of thing when I had FlashBlock installed.

Yep, that's fine, There's now a Browse button rather than Select Files and it's working fine.
I still don't understand why I was seeing a Select Files button though, if this browser doesn't support flash. I checked with a browser that does though, (Advanced Chrome) and it now has a Choose Files button rather than select files and it's working.

You probably missed the edit of my previous post. Do you have a FlashBlock plugin installed?

  22. It hadn't occurred to me until now, but sometime recently I updated VLC. Normally I don't let it install any plugins. Apparently, this time I did. It's only appearing as a plugin for Pale Moon and Firefox, the two browsers for which the Select Files button disappeared. The VLC plugin appears to include flash, so maybe that's what happened. I updated VLC, installed the plugin, and the check for Flash on the My Files page thinks it's installed, but it doesn't work for uploading files. Or maybe that's a load of bullocks and has nothing to do with it.....

It'd explain why restarting Firefox with add-ons disabled didn't fix the problem originally though, if the VLC plugin was the cause. Now I've checked, running Firefox with add-ons disabled only disables installed extensions. It doesn't disable plugins, so the VLC plugin would've still been enabled.
