Is it possible to watch a vcd on my computer without having a dvd drive? Isn't it just like watching a photo cd?

    thats no problem.
For SVCD you'd want a MPG2 decoder (software) you find that either in the tools section or install a dvd playing foftware as PowerDVD or WinDVD and the decoder will be installed with it.

Downlaod a standalone Mpeg 2 Codec in the TOOLS section for any SVCD's.

    To watch a VCD

In Explorer browse into the MPEGAV folder (assuming it's a VCD)

Double-click on any of the .DAT files and associate them with your Media Player and open them with that.

I guess I played out my demo time on windvd, and until I register it, I would like to download a freeware player. I looked in the tools section, and I saw a couple of free programs. Can anyone recommend a good one for me? One that is not too complicated and can play
    SVCDs as well as
    VCDs.

  8. If you download the free mpeg2 codec, mediaplayer will take the file, Thats what I used when I wanted to test my systems ability to decode DVD quality video.
