I am not skilled enough to offer technical information here, but I (& I realize others also) have had trouble with reading closed captions which are too small or lack sufficient contrast against the background to be legible. Again, I lack expertise & am just beginning to explore this possibility, but I recently became aware that on my tablet settings you can make several adjustments for better legibility in closed captioning streaming video in terms of size, background contrast, etc. (I have an older Fire Tablet 7, 5th Generation). I understand that it is also possible to mirror/cast from iOS/Android/pc to smart TVs or dongles (chromecast, roku, firestick). I realize that some streaming platforms are not so cast-friendly & there are differences in mobile devices/tablets. And some devices or platforms might only be friendly to certain dongles. However, sales will be approaching soon for Amazon Prime day, Black Friday, CyberMonday, everywhere, etc. And there are now even free streaming platforms with subtitles on some shows (including older UK shows, foreign shows, etc). Even YouTube has foreign movies with subtitles (problem is FINDING THEM!). Anyway, I am suggesting that without spending a fortune & by using what you already have (old phone/tablet) or getting TV/dongles/tablets on sale & even using free streaming platforms, it might be possible to CAST streaming shows with closed captions with more legible fonts (larger size, more contrast, etc) to these smart tvs/dongles than perhaps the TV itself would provide caption-wise. [If you go the Amazon route, you MIGHT have better luck with both Amazon tablets & Amazon firestick together using Amazon Airscreen app. Amazon tablets are cheap AND GOOGLE PLAY STORE IS EASY TO INSTALL to get many free streaming platforms (instructions on various online sites). I am not pushing Amazon, but simply it is the budget tablet with which I am familar. And even the budget tablet can do it without spending a fortune.] I suspect that generally more success would be found casting to either Roku or Firestick (rather than chromecast). I have cast from computer to both Roku & firestick, so you could even skip the mobile/tablet if you prefer. Again, I am a tech-no-idiot & just beginning to explore this, but I do think this approach could offer some hope to those of us with declining hearing & eyesight. Again, research online could help some of us to do this--maybe by using what we already have & without spending any more money.....
